When I met Sandy and Shane it was the perfect fit. Finding the perfect clients is a little bit like finding the right partner, you just know, and it just feels right. I met them at a wedding Expo where they saw one of my live wedding paintings on display. When we spoke later, and ultimately booked my services they had expressed that they were interested in a similar pose to what they saw on display at the Expo.

When I paint a wedding, or any scene I’m drawn to real moments. I get excited to paint what my couples show me about themselves, and their unique love story. Sometimes I can see it in a moment where they look at each other, and other times I can see it in the way their holding hands. Every couple is unique, and everyone has their own love story.

Fast forward to their wedding day and everything about the Wadsworth Mansion in Connecticut is beautiful, the couple looks beautiful and the whole day is playing out perfectly. The scene that I am there to paint is a posed moment on the stairs, but the couple had already expressed that they trusted my judgement and they are most interested in getting a beautiful painting.

Their first look happens, and it’s as if the world had stopped. The sun came out at that exact moment, and a beam of light was passing through the room right where they were standing. I grabbed my camera and started to take reference photos; in my heart I knew that this moment was perfect.

After their first look, I posed my couple for a more formal shoot, I wanted to make sure I had ample reference to work from and that I had explored every possible option including the pose that we originally thought would be the winner. To be perfectly honest, the photos I took of them were beautiful, but I just knew it didn’t feel “right,” the staircase didn’t have any natural light and ultimately the magic was missing.

When I looked back over my camera roll, I knew I had to paint that perfect moment from their first look. I was so excited when Sandy and Shane agreed, here is their final live wedding painting
